Tolls for driving on Slovakian motorways and expressways are paid by purchasing a digital Slovakia vignette which is issued by the Eznamka tolling system. While it was originally a physical sticker that had to be placed on your vehicle's window with compliance done via visual checks, today, the vignette is electronic and is known as the vignette SK. Since the 1st of December, 2015, it has been mandatory to have an e-vignette in Slovakia. It is digitally linked to your license plate number which is registered in the Slovak Republic database.
The SK vignette can be purchased in less than two minutes at Tollwayr with secure online payment methods, including credit cards, PayPal, and Apple Pay, among others. You'll receive confirmation of your registration almost instantly in your email inbox.
On 1 December 2015, the Slovakian e vignette was commissioned. The system was built and is maintained by Skytoll which took less than three months to get the system fully operational. Slovakia's toll system is time-based (10-, 30-, 365-day, or 1-year) rather than based on distances driven, with the vignette requirement applying to all vehicles that weigh less than 3.5 tonnes. Once issued, proof of the registration will be in the database of “Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, the Slovakian government body responsible for the toll collection.
Heavier vehicles above 3.5 tonnes will need to make toll payments based on distance, per km, using an onboard unit. It is mandatory to have a Slovak e-vignette when driving on all motorways and expressways.
